Houston Junior Derby Program Info
Houston Junior Derby is actively seeking new skaters! If you're ready to get rolling, purchase your registration and tuition (uniforms, practice fees, etc) at the link to the right. Printed schedules with the practice calendar will be distributed at the first practice.
Unless otherwise noted, all classes are held at Houston Indoor Sports at 9am and end at 11am
Please allocate for an 8:30am – 11:30am total practice time slot in your schedule to allow time for gearing up, gearing down, and any after-practice parent/skater meetings.
ALL skaters (ages 7-17) are encouraged to attend all 10 regular practices.
Tuition for 10-practice session is $100.
Additional costs for participants include:
Mandatory JRDA (Junior Roller Derby Association) insurance, which can be purchased annually as a member of Houston Junior Roller Derby, individually, or at a day/drop-in rate ($3 per day)
Supplementary WFTDA insurance is optional, but can be purchased through Houston Roller Derby for $70 per year**
$76 for uniform jerseys (pink event shirt, black and white uniform) with girl’s derby name and number printed on back (girls are required to have both jerseys – replacements may be ordered for $18 each)
Scrimmage jerseys (one black, one white) with skater name and number printed on back and sleeves are recommended, but may be purchased independently**
Armbands printed with skater number are recommended for scrimmaging, but must be purchased independently**
Equipment (see note below)
Required equipment: Ideally girls should have all their own equipment, but we understand this can be quite an investment. Girls are welcome to borrow from the extra gear on hand at our practice facility until they get their own, but our children’s sizes (especially for skates) are pretty limited, so there is no guarantee we will have spare gear on hand to fit your child. In order to play safely, all skaters must be wearing properly fitting:
Mouth guard (skaters MUST provide their own – we do not keep extras on hand!)
Quad skates (if you would like advice on what types to get or where to shop, let us know)
Helmet (we recommend helmets made for skateboarding or hockey
Additional skills-based practices may be available at an additional cost.
